Pincushions are cute

I heart cute things. On my desk at work lives a solar powered, dancing pink flower. Can't get much cuter than that, right?  I don't have a solar powered, dancing pink flower in my sewing room at home.  But I do have pincushions.  Pincushions have a lot of cute potential.  I was wasting a lot of cute potential by owning a boring, red tomato pincushion. So I decided to try my hand at the art of pincushion-making this weekend and I must admit there was quite a bit of squealing when the cute potential started to emerge.  Now for the show-and-tell portion of today's post.

I had so much fun working with the bright colors while making this one.

I used canvas for the backing to make it extra sturdy and I just love the vibrant stripes.

The second one I made is pink, white and girly.

I used pink denim for the backing because I thought it added a nice contrasting texture.

Both pincushions are filled with crushed walnut shells which give them a nice, heavy weight.  You can purchase a large bag of it at most pet stores. I found mine in the reptile section. eeek.
I see a lot more pincushion making in my future. If you see one of these pincushions in your future, head over to my etsy shop. :)
